Van Miller

Van Miller was born the third of six siblings on July 20, 1950, in Orlando, Florida, to parents, Ernest Gallon and Mae Willie Miller. He attended Phyllis Wheatley High School and graduated in 1968 in the second class to graduate from Phyllis Wheatley High before the school was integrated. In 1970, Van chose to stand with other brave men and women to defend our country and joined the United States Army. After serving his time in the Army, Van came out of the Armed Forces and joined the workforce. He worked as a security guard until his health began to weaken him, and he retired from the workforce. Van joined St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Apopka at a very early age. In the midst of time, he moved away from Apopka and St. Paul, but as everyone does at some point in life, he returned home in 2024. Van rededicated his life to God and the church. He was also a member of the noonday prayer. As we often heard this song, “some glad morning, when this life is over, “I’ll fly away.” On the morning of May 8, 2025, Van made that trip to God’s celestial shore and was sure to say, “When I die, hallelujah by and by, I’ll fly away”. Van was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willie and Pearl Lowery, mother, Mae Willie Miller, father, Ernest Gallon; brothers: Charlie Miller, Stanley Miller, and Ronald Lee Gallon; Sisters: Valerie Miller, Addie Pearl Miller, and Leona Rosalind. Van leaves to cherish precious memories…his son, Troy Miller of Apopka, Florida; Daughter, Angel Araiza (Luis) of Columbus, Georgia; Sisters: Reverend Gayle Sinclair of Orlando, Florida, Lynette Gallon of Tampa, Florida, Lashawn Gallon (Charles) of Tampa, Florida, Janice Gallon of Tampa, Florida, Ernestine Stokes (Carlton) of Tampa, Florida, Parthenia Gallon of Tampa, Florida, and Helena Johnson of Tampa, Florida; Brothers: Everett Gallon (Mary) of Tampa, Florida, Carl Gallon (Vicky) of Tampa, Florida, Chester Bennett (Jeanette) of Orlando, Florida; 1 Grandson, Akeen Miller of Apopka, Florida; Nieces and Nephews: Stacy and Sherry Miller of Orlando, Florida, Koryan, Eddie, Krystal, Kirsten, and Katina; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
