Sharon L. Slaughter

Sharon Jolly Slaughter was born July 25, 1950 in Orlando, Florida to the late Lewis and Zenola Jolly. As a product of Orange County Public Schools, she attended Holden Street Elementary, and was a 1968 graduate of Jones High School. In 1971, Sharon married the love of her life, the late Milton J. Slaughter, III who affectionately called her "Sheryl". Sharon first job was at Orange Memorial Hospital during high school. Following her graduation, Sharon worked in the deli at Fairwind's Grocery for a short time. Later, she became employed with Orange County Public Schools - Lee Middle School renamed as College Park Middle School, as a guidance clerk. She held that position for 31 years until her retirement. She loved helping students and parents navigate middle school. She did not mind contacting parents of the children from her church and community to advise them of their child's behavior, academic performance and potentials. Sharon followed her grandmother and mother's footsteps and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, joining Saint Mark A.M.E. Church (Avondale) under the late Rev. J. D. Washington. Sharon had a beautiful voice and sang in the Progressive, Shekinah, and Mass choirs. She had planned to sing in the choir again, but her health did not allow her to reach that goal. She was a lifelong, active, member and participated in many church activities and organizations including the youth department, youth choir, ACE Fellowship and culinary committee. Sharon developed and enjoyed a special bond with Ms. Joyce Gray, Ms. Larbern Jordan, and Ms. Terri Coakley. On Thursday June 15, 2023, Sharon answered the called from our Lord and Savior to put on her white robe and receive her crown. Sharon will be greatly missed. We know she is in a better place where there is no more pain or suffering. Sharon will now take her place in God's heavenly choir. Sharon was preceded in death by her husband: Milton Slaughter, III; parents: Lewis and Zenola Jolly; grandparents: Jimmy and Willie Louise Jenkins; great grandparents: Saffronia Jackson, Willie and Rosetta Beasley, Dave and Carrie Jolly, and nephew: Jayson Jolly. She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her son: Milton J Slaughter IV (Chip); grandson: Justin Jerome Slaughter (JJ); sister: Rosetta Jolly Walker; brothers: Lewis Jolly Jr., Jimmy Eugene Jolly; uncle: J.C. Jolly; sister-in-laws: Jacquelyn J. Bain, Connie S. Hull (Willie), Ferra Slaughter; brother-in laws: Bosco Slaughter (Beverly), Alphonso Slaughter (Cynthia), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
