Robert G. Stephens

Robert G. Stephens was born November 7, 1952, in Brooklyn, New York, to Rubye Virginia Warren. He was raised in a God-fearing household and taught godly principles by his grandmother, Rosetta Rollerson. Robert’s early education began at Welbourne Nursery in Winter Park, Florida. He attended Hannibal Square Elementary School, Winter Park, Florida, and historic Hungerford High School in Eatonville, Florida. Robert and Veronica first met in nursery school. After nursey school, their lives took separate paths, only to reconnect many years later. Upon completion of High School, Robert enlisted in the United States Army. Deacon Stephens had military assignments overseas including Germany, and in Radcliff, Kentucky. While on military leave, he was re-introduced to the soon to be love of his life, Veronica V. Daugherty. This led to their marriage on August 21, 1982, held at Flowers Temple Church of God in Christ in Winter Park, Florida. Robert was in awe, amazed, and marveled that God would give him such a beautiful and intelligent young lady in Veronica for his wife. He thought she was way above his league! They were the best thing that happened to each other. He and Veronica were married 41 years before God called Veronica home. At an early age, Robert accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He grew up in Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church in Winter Park, Florida. After he retired from the military and returned home, he joined Flowers Temple Church of God in Christ. While at Flowers Temple, Robert served faithfully as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, a member of the Trustee Board, and sang in the Male Choir. He drove school buses for Orange County Board of Education until his final retirement. After several years of service at Flowers Temple, Deacon and Missionary Stephens felt called to move their membership to Mission Road Church of God in Christ in Oviedo, Florida. They faithfully served there until the passing of Missionary Stephens. Due to the travel distance to Oviedo, Deacon Stephens moved his membership to Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ in Altamonte Springs, Florida, under the leadership of Superintendent Charles Butler. He served there faithfully as well, until God called him home. Robert was highly creative. He enjoyed authoring short stories in his spare time. He was an avid reader who loved advancing his vocabulary from the many books he read. He enjoyed drawing and painting from an early age. His latest hobby was teaching himself to play the keyboard. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and queen, Missionary Veronica Daugherty Stephens, his loving mother, Rubye V. Warren Johnson, and his precious grandmother, Rosetta Rollerson. He leaves to rejoice in his memory: a sister, Arlene Warren; a devoted cousin, Vanessa Johnson (Raymond); an aunt in-law, Naomi Lemon (Solomon); cousins in-law, Lawrence Rainey (Johnnie), and Julian (Ben) Moreland; godchildren, Kendra Kingdom, Marcus Smith, Alphonso Scurry, Jr., and Louis Walker; plus devoted friends, Madglene Walton, Kathy Blake Simmons, Elder Daniel Perry, and a host of other relatives and friends.
