Mary Lou Solomon

Mary Lou Lucas was born on November 26, 1922 to Joe and Susie Lucas in Rochelle, Georgia. She attended school and graduated from Rochelle County. She was a member on New Travelers Baptist Church in Abbeville, Georgia. Mary met and married her first husband J.D. Dean. After her first husband J.D. Dean's death, she relocated to Florida where she settled down and grew her family. She attended First Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Elder R.J. Boone. She met her late husband Robert Joseph Solomon, Sr. in Groveland, Florida at church. Let her tell the story, he followed her on the bus to Georgia, where they were later married. From both her unions came six children. Later in her life, when she missed Bertha Dukes, the decisions was made for her to move to Maryland under the care of her grandchild, Tamikeo Adetoro. She spent 12 years there before returning to Florida to spend the remainder of her life. Mary never met a person she didn't love and she never turned anyone away. Often, her Hart Street house would be full of grandchildren, where she would cook breakfast and dinner every day. One thing you knew about Mary is that she loved the Lord. Dropping by the house at any time, you would hear her listening to the Williams Brothers song, "Cooling Water or the Canton Spirituals. She played the biggest part in raising her grands and great-grands. God blessed Mary to see 102 years! During the final days, she was surrounded by her family, filled with love and appreciation for the matriarch. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Susie Lucas; her siblings, Willie Holmes and Minnie Miller; her husband, Robert Solomon; 5 of her children, Mary Ann Pryor, Bertha Dukes, Leila Bell Walker, Paulette Solomon, and Julius Solomon; and grandchildren: Deborah Hawkins, Joseph Dukes, and William Pryor. She leaves to cherish her memories one son, Robert Solomon of Groveland, Florida, and one daughter, Susie Mae Irvin. Grandchildren: Jocelyn Pryor, Robert Pryor (Karen), Ronald Pryor (Jacqueline), Stanley Pryor, Jacqueline Solomon, Richard Solomon (Rose), Corey Solomon, Norma Jean Davis, Vanessa Walker, Rayfeon Walker, Latoshia Ousley (Terry), Tamikeo Adteoro (Teslim), Montalvo Wolfork (Jacquelyn), Lawrence Dukes (Aretha), Theodore Dukes, Sharita Gordon, Laneria Solomon, Zacharia Solomon, and Lori Lindsey; as well as a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, great-great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
