Johnny C. Russ

His Life and Legacy Johnny C. Russ was born on September 23, 1944, in Cottondale, Florida, to his parents, Kate Bailey Russ and Cleavland Russ. Surrounded by the love of a large family Johnny was raised alongside his ten brothers and sisters on the family farm. Life on the farm helped shape Johnny into the hardworking, dedicated, and dependable man he would become. The Russ family grew sugar cane, peanuts, greens, and other crops, and through those early experiences, Johnny learned the importance of hard work, family, perseverance, and providing for those you love. Johnny received his education in Jackson County and proudly graduated from Jackson County Training School in Marianna, Florida, in 1963. A Life of Service In 1968, Johnny answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army. During his military career he served during the Vietnam War and was recognized for his service in combat. Johnny devoted 20 years of his life to the United States Army. His military career took him and his family to numerous duty stations throughout the United States and abroad including Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Stewart, Georgia; Mannheim, Germany; Osterholz, Germany; Hawaii; and Fort Rucker, Alabama, among others. After two decades of honorable service, Johnny retired from the United States Army in 1988. A Life Built on Love Also in 1968, Johnny married the love of his lite, Elizabeth D. Russ. Their marriage became an enduring partnership built upon love, commitment. family, faith, and the many experiences they shared throughout the years. Following Johnny's retirement from the military, he and Elizabeth made Orlando, Florida, their home and began the next chapter of their lives together. Johnny continued his strong work ethic in civilian life, working for Alterman Trucking Company and later with Orange County Waste Management. A Life of Faith Faith was an important part of Johnny's life. Johnny and Elizabeth became devoted members of the Church of Christ at West Orlando, where they worshiped and faithfully served for many years. Johnny's life reflected the values instilled in him from his earliest days-faith, family, hard work, service commitment, and perseverance. From the farm fields of Cottondale to his service on behalf of his country, and from his working years to the life he built with his beloved family, Johnny leaves behind a legacy worthy of remembrance and celebration. On August 9, 2026, Johnny C. Russ completed his earthly journey. Although his physical presence will be deeply missed, the lessons he taught, the love he shared, the sacrifices he made, and the memories created throughout his 81 years of life will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His Family Johnny was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Russ; and parents; Cleavland Russ and Kate Bailey Russ; daughter, Jill; brother, Willie Russ; and sisters: Willa Mac Maybin, Lenora Russ, and Gloria Allen. Left to cherish is memory and continue his legacy...his daughter, Jenitra Harp (William) of Orlando, Florida; son. Brian K. Daniels of Orlando, Florida; siblings: James Russ, Joyce Russ, Robert Russ, Mary Nell Grav, Darnell Russ, and Linda Pullin; 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and special friends.
