Mr. Jack Sterling Harris, Sr.

A Man of “GREAT” Faith “His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” Matthew 25:21 Brother Jack Sterling Harris, Sr. aka “Papa Jack” was born November, 12, 1929, in Sparta, Georgia to Robert and Estelle Harris. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and united with the Greater Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, where he served in the Senior Choir, Male Chorus, and sang with The Voices of Mt. Carmel. He also sang with different Quartet groups. On July 21, 1956, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Ella Mae Harris. To this union, three children were born, Glenda Lorraine Harris, Jack Sterling Harris, Jr., and Sheri Sherise Harris. In 1957, he was employed by the City of Mount Dora in the Sanitation Department where he worked until retirement after 34 years. Jack was a man of integrity, faith, encouragement, and love for his family, friends, and anyone who met him in passing. He enjoyed singing, fishing, cooking, and family gatherings. Favorite sayings of Papa Jack that will be remembered by many …“JUSTA-SHOW”, “THAT’S REAL STRANGE”, “WA-HOO”, and “THIS THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT.” Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mae Harris; parents, Robert and Estelle Harris; brothers: James, Lewis, Edward Harris; and sisters: Agnes Harris, Odessa Culver. He leaves to cherish his love and many memories to the following: children, Glenda L. Harris, Reverend Jack S. Harris, Jr. (Angela), all of Mt. Dora, Florida, and Sheri S. Rocker (Albert) of Huntsville, Alabama; special family relationship, Alexander Barton of Tampa, Florida, Minister Stanley Barton (Jackie) of Orlando, Florida, Mary McCoy of Mt. Dora, Florida, Henry Roberts (Wanda) of Eustis, Florida; brother, Bobby Lee Harris of Mt. Dora, Florida; devoted sister-in-law, Vera Harris; grandchildren, Crystal Rocker of Tampa, Florida, Albert Rocker, III of Los Angeles, California, Jahmal Harris of Atlanta, Georgia, Simone Harris of Atlanta, Georgia, Kenyatta Vernon (Paul) of Roswell, Georgia, and Keith Green of Atlanta, Georgia; great-grandchild, Jaylen S. Harris of Atlanta, Georgia; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
