Celebrating a Life Well Lived Today, weather to celebrate the life of Heron Edgerton Clarker a beloved father grandfather, brother, uncle, relative, and friend whose life touched many and whose memory will forever remain in our hearts. Early Life and Family Hylton Edgerton Clarke was born on Monday, September 22, 1941, in the peaceful district of Welcome, Hanover, Jamaica, to Henry Clarke and Agatha Palmer Clarke. He was the sixth of seven children. Growing up in a close-knit family, he learned the values of hard work, resilience, respect, and perseverance -principles that remained with him throughout his life. He began his early education at Cacoon Castle Primary School, where strict learning and deportment were strongly emphasized and reinforced at home, helping to lay the foundation for the hardworking and dependable man he would become. Hylton was still a young boy when his father passed away. The loss deeply affected him, and whenever family conversations turned to their roots, he would often recount the story of his father's death, revealing that he never fully came to terms with that profound loss. Left to raise her children alone, his mother worked diligently and sacrificially to ensure that her children were well cared for. Hylton loved and admired her deeply. Career and Professional Life As a young man, Hylton moved to Kingston in the late 1950s to pursue greater opportunities. He attended St. Andrew Technical School, where he trained in residential and commercial painting and became a professional painter. He also worked as a Security Officer, where his commitment, professionalism, and dedication earned him the respect of those who worked alongside him. In 1986, he migrated to Orlando, Florida, where he established his own residential painting business, a profession he faithfully continued until his retirement. Hylton took great pride in his craft. He was meticulous in every detail and believed every job should be completed with excellence. Family members always appreciated his willingness to lend a helping hand, and many homes became more beautiful because of his skilled workmanship. Painting was more than a profession to him -it was a reflection of the pride he took in doing things well. His Character and Interests Anyone who knew Hylton knew he was a man of conviction. He was intelligent, confident, and never short of an opinion. Whether the conversation centered on current events, world affairs, or especially American politics, he always had something thoughtful to say. He enjoyed lively discussions and wasn't afraid to challenge your perspective. If you spent enough time with him, you would likely hear him say with a smile that he was about to "tell you what you don't know." Sports were among one of Hylton's great passions. He could talk for hours about games, players, and teams with such confidence that you would think he had insider knowledge. His enthusiasm was contagious, making every conversation engaging and entertaining. His Philosophy of Life One of Hylton's greatest qualities was his outlook on life. He possessed a calm spirit and an unwavering belief that worrying accomplished very little. Whenever difficulties arose, he would simply say, "Dat's jus' life. Tek it or leave it." Those simple words reflected how he lived. He faced life's challenges with quiet strength, resilience, and a remarkable ability to keep moving forward. Love for Family Family was incredibly important to Hylton. He enjoyed spending time with his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. From New Year's Day to Christmas, he looked forward to every holiday spent with family. He enjoyed playing dominoes, sharing stories, and savoring the delicious meals lovingly prepared by his son and daughter-in-law. He also treasured his visits to Canada, where he spent quality time with his beloved sister, Enid Clarke, his nephew, Junior, his niece-in-law, Millicent, and his grandnieces and grandnephews. Those visits were filled with laughter, meaningful conversations, and precious memories that strengthened the family's bond. They always looked forward to welcoming him, and he cherished every opportunity to be with them. His Peaceful Passing On Sunday, July 12, 2026, Hylton peacefully departed this life, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, hard work, resilience, and love for his family. Hylton was preceded in death by his beloved parents and by his siblings: Simion Clarke, Clarista White, Winnifred Whittingham, and Avis Brown. Cherishing His Memory & Words of Comfort He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted son, Delroy Clarke; his beloved daughter-in-law, Alicia "Lisa" Clarke; his cherished grandchildren: Kaelyn and Kylan Clarke; his loving sisters: Enid Clarke and Berzel Clarke; along with his nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him. Although our hearts are heavy today, we find comfort in God's unfailing promises. His Word reminds us in Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV): Fear not; for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. May this promise strengthen each of us as we mourn Hylton's passing. While we grieve because we will miss his presence, we are grateful for the gift of his life, the memories he created, the wisdom he shared, and the love he gave so freely. A Lasting Legacy Today, we celebrate a life well lived, a man remembered for his integrity, strong work ethic, unwavering convictions, his sense of humor, and his deep love for family. Though his earthly journey has come to an end, his legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
