Debora Ann Hammonds

With great sorrow and spirit-filled gratitude, the Hammonds, and White, families announce the passing of our kind, brave, caring and unimaginably generous wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Debora Ann Hammonds. Born in Winchester, Kentucky on October 5, 1957, Debora was two years old when she and her family moved to Orlando, Florida. Debora peacefully transitioned on October 27, 2024, after she decided to be placed in hospice and allow her faith and the providence of God to determine the day of her final good-bye to love ones. Debora attended Orange County Public Schools, graduating from Edgewater High School in 1975. Her love for education encouraged her to continue her education, earning an Associates of Arts degree from Seminole State University in Seminole County and a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Orlando College. Debora’s drive for excellence and loyalty was on display daily in her profession. For over 30+ years Debora, devoted her career in telecommunication to the once Winter Park Telephone Company which was merged and became Century Link where she served in Business Management. Although Debora was a kind and gentle person, she is mostly known as being a devoted wife and mother. Married to Gary L. Hammonds for over 24 years, along with raising two phenomenal daughters Maya Enjoli Hammonds, and Brandi Celeste Hammonds, her greatest joy came as her daughters grew into adulthood and shifted her into grandparenting. Debora became known affectionately as “Sweetie Pie” to her grandchildren Jonathan Michael Brown, and Celeste LeeAnn Hammonds. “Her children arise up and call her blessed;” Proverbs 31:28 Debora Ann Hammonds is known as a loving servant in her church and community. As a lifelong member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Debora received salvation, was baptized and thus began her legacy of service to her church. Debora’s area of service includes working in the Youth Ministry, a joyous member of the Voices of Praise and the Sanctuary Choir, as well as being one of the original organizers of the Young Adult Choir. Debora was also on the Pastoral search team, which commissioned the current pastor of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Dr. Willie C Barnes. Debora loved the community she lived in and was a devoted resident of Eatonville, Florida for over 20 years, she later moved to Windgrove in Maitland, where she become a loving and devoted neighbor. After several years as a Maitland resident, Debora moved back to Eatonville, as her final residence was in Catalina Park. She served in various volunteer positions working with the town elections, and planning and zoning board. “Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.” Proverbs 31:25 After championing 11 years of medical concerns, Debora announced her resolute faith in God choosing no more medicine for her pain, “there is a better place in glory where there is no more pain.” She leaves her memory and heartfelt love to: her devoted husband, Gary L. Hammonds; two loving daughters, Maya Enjoli Hammonds and Brandi Celeste Hammonds; two beautiful grandchildren, Jonathan Michael Brown, and Celeste LeeAnn Hammonds; one brother, Ronnie White (Marcia); two sisters, Apostle Dr. Gigi Palmer and Felicia White; three nieces, Crystal Boone (Albert), Charena White, and Jourdain Palmer; six nephews, Minister Chasman Barnes, Brad White (Erica), Brian White, Brandon White, Blake White, and Braxton White. She also leaves loving memories and heartfelt love to her son Jeffery Cummings (Ruby), a host of second cousins, great nieces and nephews, sisters and brothers in law, nieces and nephews in law, a host of friends and family. Her spirit resides eternally in heaven, however her earthly body will be laid to rest in Piney Wood Cemetery, Winter Park.
