Bobby Walker

Bobby L. Walker was born May 3, 1951 in Swainsboro, Georgia to parents, Jewell Bady and Dora Banner. Bobby was raised by his grandmother. In his 20’s he traveled to Sorrento, Florida where he resided and built a family with his wife, Cassandra. In 1976, Bobby Walker was baptized in the name of Jesus and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost at Refuge Church of Our Lord in Deland, Florida, under the leadership of then Elder James B. Darby (now Bishop). Bobby served faithfully and became Deland's first Deacon of Refuge Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ. He also served as Church treasurer. As a young man, he had various means of employment ranging from working in orange groves, watermelon farms, Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT), and eventually retired as a foreman at Franks Farm Pre-cooler. Post retirement, he owned a thriving lawn service. Despite his tougher than nail’s exterior. Bobby was a gentle soul, loving, caring and had a great sense of humor. He was a man of few words, rarely complained or showed emotions, stubborn and set in his ways. As he did seemingly all his life, he worked to live. His work ethic was bar-none. "May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us-yes, establish the work of our hands." (Psalms 90:17, KJV) His favorite past time was spent on the lake fishing, collecting scrap metal and relaxing to a western show or avidly cheering on his favorite football team the Dallas Cowboys. During the last few days of his life, Bishop and Mother Darby spent time with him in prayer, and during this time, he was saying yes to the Lord. In the fourth quarter of his earthly life surrounded by family he ended the broadcast of his life with the words “in Jesus name Amen”. He will be sadly missed by family and friends but will always remain in our hearts. Rest well… Bobby was preceded in death by his Father, Jewell Bady; Mother, Dora Banner; Daughter, Gloria Johnson Bush; Brothers: Eddie Walker and Willie Paul Banner; and Sister, Brenda Ann Jerger. Left to cherish his memory…a loving Wife of 53 years, Cassandra Walker of Sorrento, Florida; Daughters: Sandra Randal of Atlanta, Georgia, Christy Mejia (Odis) of Orlando, Florida, and Yolanda Walker of Eustis, Florida; Brothers: Thomas Walker of Meter, Georgia, Jimmy Banner (Marion) of Mt. Dora, Florida, and Larry Banner of Eustis, Florida; Sisters: Wanda Black (David) of Eustis, Florida and Velma Hamilton of Lady Lake, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.
