Nancy Wyche-Carruthers

Nancy Ann Wyche-Carruthers was born on March 17, 1950 in Bronx, New York to Walter Joseph Wyche, Jr. and Willie Mae Sanders-Wyche. After returning home from serving in the Army during World War, II, Nancy’s father became one of the first black Trolley and Bus Drivers for New York. Nancy, her two brothers and sister Paulette, grew up in the Fredrick Douglas Apartments in Harlem. She graduated from Washington Irving High School. She continued her education by attending Hunter College and in 1981 she graduated from Hunter College. After graduating from Hunter, Nancy taught at the St. Augustine Parochial School in the Bronx for several years before working as a dietitian in the New York Public School System. Her father encouraged her to take the test for the City Transit System. Nancy took the test passed it and became a Subway Car Conductor. She later became a Tower Operator and finally a Train Operator. Nancy married Eugene Carruthers in 1996. In 2004 they decided to retire and moved to Florida because of health problems. Nancy loved traveling and made frequent trips to New Orleans for Mardi Gras and the Essence Festival. She loved decorating, and blinging out articles she picked up at auctions. Nancy was a faithful church member. She attended St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church and Harvest Time Ministry and Worship Center. She was a member of the NAACP and the Metropolitan Transit Authority Retirees of Florida. She loved her friends and family. She never held back when she thought that someone was being treat unfairly. If she liked you, then you automatically became a blood relative. Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, Willie Mae Wyche, father, Walter Joseph Wyche, Jr. and two brothers, Walter Joseph Wyche, III and Willie James Wyche. Nancy leaves to cherish precious memories to: her husband: Dr. Eugene Carruthers; children: Margo Selena Boyd (Chris) of Brooklyn, New York, Alexandra Usungo (Mukoie) of Kissimmee, Florida, Selena Carruthers and Vanessa Carruthers, both of Largo, Florida, Mary Susan Cuff (Chris) of Cerritos, California; son: Roy Boyd of Kissimmee, Florida; sister: Denicee P. Scott of Poinciana, Florida; sisters-in-law: Annette Carruthers of Kissimmee, Florida, Belinda Carruthers of Dacula, Georgia, Denise Ashe of Murfreesboro, North Carolina; grandchildren: Jasmine, Carlisse, Maya, Alyssa, Tyler, Sydney and Elijah; special love to cousin: Grace; special friends: Tee, Rich, Artrice, Nathan, Paula, Mrs. Shirley Taylor, Dr. Prince; Drs. S. and G. Mumtaz, The Betty and Green Families: Mavis Russell and Deborah Holmes; two aunts: Girlie Mae Sanders and Mae Brown, both of Charlotte, North Carolina; two nieces: four nephews: a host of cousins other loving relatives and friends.
