Rimes, often referred to as Lois, Momma, Sister, Auntie and a listening burden bearing encouraging friend; went on to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on August 4th, 2021 after an extended illness. Hazel (Lois) was born on January 20th, 1938, to James “Red” Rimes and Lillian “Lillie May” Carter in Leesburg, Florida. She lost her parents at a very young age but was cared for and nurtured by her older sisters and brothers. Hazel was one of ten children. Hazel was the mother of three dutiful and obedient children: Deborah, Marveen and Michael. She did her best everyday of her life to love, to take care of and to lead her children in the faith. She has fulfilled God’s plan for her life! Hazel attended and graduated from Lake County Training School, where she earned a high school diploma. She went onto, at one point, to work 3 jobs to support herself and her 3 children. Each of her children and grandchildren were truly her heart’s desire and love! Hazel retired from the City of Leesburg after 26 years of willful and purposeful work to help make the city a better place to live. She was a lifelong member of St. Stephen’s AME Church. As a believer and follower of the faith, she served in many capacities; stewardess, usher and other posts during her life. After battling in the fight of her life against several maladies, on August 4, 2021, Hazel went onto be with her Lord resting in peace forever “Ma.” Preceding her in death; Brothers: Vasco “Sugar” Rimes, Coram Rimes, Stafford Rimes, Wilbur Rimes, and Randolph Rimes, Sisters: Erma Rimes, Bell Rimes, Mozella “Moe” Allen, and Mercina “Baye” Nix. She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter Marveen Z. Jefferson (Bill) and son Michael B. Allen. Grand-daughter; Whitney, grandsons; Corey (Latesha), Brandon, Marcus, Zachary and Bryan. Sister Geraldine “Lollie” Youmans, brother James “Bully” Rimes (Sadie), numerous nieces and nephews, a host of friends and loved ones. As a relative and/or friend she loved you and prayed without ceasing for your salvation and well-being. She would ask each of you to honor God! So, please do so and cherish each breath of your God-given life! It was known to many that “Lois” loved to dance and was a friend to all she encountered. Her spirit and nature were gentle, kind and loving. May God bless each of you as you reflect on your part and role in the life of our Mother!
