    Deacon Alton D. Carter, Sr.

    April 25, 1934 - May 12, 2022

    Deacon Alton D. Carter was born on April 25, 1934 in Omaha, Georgia to Ruben Carter, Sr. and Anna Slaughter on a spring morning in Georgia. He spent his youthful years attending school in Stewart County Georgia. Deacon Carter was an active baseball player in the Negro League in Georgia. He played the position of Pitcher while in the league. He continued his journey playing baseball, when he moved to Florida to be with his cousin, Willie Pearl McDonald. Soon after his move to Florida, he met a young lady named Doris Jean Gaines. They were united in Holy Matrimony and parented two children together, Alton D. Carter, Jr. and Sharon D. Carter. In later years he married Henryetta J. Carter. Deacon Carter better known as AD worked for the City of Winter Park for many years as a Street Tech Foreman, where he later retired in the early 2000’s. He became a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Winter Park, Florida. He served the church for many years on the Usher Board and in 2008, he became on Ordained Deacon under the leadership of Reverend K .T. Turner Deacon Carter was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben Carter, Sr. and Anna Slaughter; wife, Doris Jean Johnson, second wife, Henryetta Carter; daughter, Sharon Carter Jackson and two grandchildren, Tyisha and Monique Virgil. Deacon Carter leaves to cherish precious memories to his son, Alton D. Carter, Jr. (Sonja) of Orlando, Florida; baby sister, Elizabeth Sherman (Rufus) of Leesburg, Georgia; he leaves his knowledge and wisdom to his four grandchildren Antwon Carter (Laura) of Apopka, Florida, Bonika Virgil of Orlando, Florida, Antonio Carter Sr. of Orlando, Florida and Nariah Davis ( Eric) of Jacksonville, Florida; ten great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; god children, Terry Watkins, Sr. (Gloria) of Apopka, Florida, Marcus Bryant of Orlando, Florida, Nivon Holland of Okahumpka, Florida, Lisa McClain of Winter Park, Florida, Winnie Manning (Al) of Winter Park, Florida, Inkeria Putnam of Orlando, Florida, Sharon (surname: unknown) who we knew as “Babygirl” of Winter Park, Florida; a host of nieces, nephews, as well as a large loving number of other relatives and friends.
