Reverend Thomas Livingston "Chico" Smith, age 90, peacefully entered eternal rest on February 11, 2026, in Orlando. He was born on March 9, 1935, in Mobile, AL to the late Kidd Smith and Carrie Bush Smith. Thomas, affectionately known as "Chico," was the youngest of nine children, all of whom preceded him in death: Roberta, Essie, John, Bennie, Alice, Kenneth, Louis, and Bessie. Being the baby of the family shaped his warm, spirited personality and his deep appreciation for family bonds that would define him throughout his life. Chico was educated in Miami, Florida, and attended Miami Northwestern Senior High School (formerly Dorsey Senior High School), where he distinguished himself as a star quarterback on the football team. His athletic talent, leadership, and love for the game were evident even in his youth, and his pride in his high school remained strong throughout his life. After high school, Chico proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years. His time in the military instilled in him discipline, resilience, and a broadened worldview that would guide him in the years ahead. Following his discharge, Chico embarked on a career in the culinary industry. Beginning as a cook, he steadily worked his way up to management, serving at various establishments including Tradewinds Cafeteria and Church's Chicken. Known for his determination and versatility, he earned the affectionate reputation of being a "jack of all trades." His entrepreneurial spirit eventually led him to venture out on his own, embracing new challenges with confidence and boldness. As life unfolded, Chico answered a higher calling to ministry. He dedicated the remainder of his life to serving as a minister of the Gospel and an evangelist. With unwavering conviction, he preached and taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ, witnessing to all who would listen. In the latter part of his life, his dream was to become a traveling evangelist, spreading the message of hope, faith, and salvation wherever God would lead him. His words were filled with wisdom, his prayers were heartfelt, and his love for people was genuine and unmistakable. Although he lived in Atlanta for a number of years, the majority of Chico's life was spent in Florida, where he built lasting friendships and left an indelible mark on countless lives. Chico was a passionate sports enthusiast, particularly devoted to football and baseball. He was a loyal fan of the Miami Hurricanes and the Miami Dolphins, proudly serving as a season ticket holder for many years. He also remained a dedicated supporter of his beloved high school football team. Beyond sports, Chico found joy in fishing, traveling, cooking, singing, and dancing. His vibrant personality lit up every room he entered. Above all, Chico was kind, loving, generous, and full of life. His wisdom, humor, and steadfast faith were constants, even as his life journey took many twists and turns. He cherished his family and friends deeply, and the love he gave so freely will continue to resonate in their hearts. To say that he will be greatly missed is an understatement. Reverend Thomas L. "Chico" Smith was truly one of a kind. There will never be another. His legacy of faith, love, and perseverance will live on in all who were blessed to know him. He is survived by his children - Debra (George) Williams, Melanie (Kenneth) Johnson-St. Jean, Anthony (Tasheba) Smith, Sr., Cynthia Smith, Lamont Fulwood, and Lawrence Fulwood; grandchildren - Maneka (William) Hodges, Reginald (Kizzy) Johnson, Jr., Vontressa Johnson (preceded in death), Tranina Johnson, Anthony Smith, Jr, Dynetra Jefferson, Shevion Wood, Chanel Smith, Christian Demetrius, Lamonica Fulwood, Darius Taylor, and Dontavis Taylor; 28 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
