Superintendent Charles D. Butler

Charles D. Butler was born to the late Martha Bell Dailey and David Butler on February 25, 1934, in Crandall, Florida, and was the oldest of three children. He was a devoted husband and father who worked tirelessly to provide for and care for his family, firmly believing in the importance of a strong family foundation and the presence of a father in the home. In 1955, he received the baptism of the Holy Ghost. In 1962, he was licensed as a minister and later ordained by the late Bishop Henry Williams as an Elder in March 1963. At the request of his father, he relocated his family from Archer, Florida to Orlando, Florida. Shortly after, he answered the call to become a Pastor in June 1969. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life and ministry leadership, as he stepped forward to serve God’s people with a greater responsibility first as a Pastor and later as a Superintendent. The Lord gave him a vision to build a church. He was the founder of Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ. He built this church with a small membership, and when it was completed in 1979, it was paid in full. Through his faith and dedication, God allowed him to see his vision fulfilled. Charles D. Butler was also a hard-working man outside of ministry. After retirement from Martin Marietta, he worked as an entrepreneur. He started a limousine service and worked for the Marvin C. Zanders Funeral Home, Inc. for over 20 years. He was an avid reader and a self-taught student of the word, who was deeply knowledgeable in the Bible. He loved scripture, studied it diligently, and believed in the power of God’s word to transform lives. Superintendent Butler was a strong advocate for Sunday school and Bible study, encouraging others to grow in their understanding of the scriptures and to build their lives on biblical truth. His wisdom, insight, and ability to rightly divide the word of God made him a trusted teacher, preacher, and spiritual leader. He was a faithful member of the Church of God in Christ for over 70 years and served under the leadership of Bishop Henry Williams, Bishop Jesse Williams, Bishop Jacob Cohen, Bishop Calvin D. Kinsey, Bishop Rushie L. Dixon, Bishop Matthew Williams, and Bishop Gary L. Hall Sr. In addition, he served as Superintendent for the Lakeland and Altamonte Springs District. He was a pillar of the community, an example of manhood, and a father to the fatherless. He always carried a smile on his face, and he was a good listener – someone in whom others could confide. His presence brought comfort, wisdom, and reassurance to those around him. Well respected and deeply connected in his community, his reputation for Godly character preceded him wherever he went, earning the admiration and respect of all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his father, David Butler; his mother, Martha Bell Dailey; his grandson, Tycris Butler; and his brother, Nathaniel Dailey. He leaves behind to cherish his precious memory, his wife of 76 years, District Missionary Annie R. Butler, with whom he shared a lifelong commitment to faith, family, and marriage. Together they were blessed with nine children: Lula Delgado, Martha (Ernesto) Gonzales, David (Karen) Butler, Lorene (Elder Winston) Hope, Glory (Dr. James) Ogedegbe, Charles (Cynthia) Butler, Elder Terry Butler, Danny (Susan) Butler, and Tyrone Butler. He also leaves his sister, Ernestine Outlaw; along with grandchildren, Laura Curry, Mark Stephens, Charles N. Butler, Shannon Simmons, Ashley Ogedegbe, Keven Butler, Te’aria Butler, Jermaine Butler, Natalie Butler, Melody Butler, Latesha Tsoungui, and Shanita Butler; a host of great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, goddaughter, Deborah Webb; dear friends, and spiritual sons and daughters, whose lives were forever changed by his faithful service to God.
