Sherry grew up in Apopka, Florida, where she attended Phyllis Wheatley Elementary and High School, graduating from Apopka Memorial High School in 1972. Upon graduating from high school, Sherry pursued a career in Management at Walt Disney World while taking on the role of being a full-time mom, homemaker, entrepreneur, and seamstress for the entire family. She was well known for her fashion sense, perusing yard sales, her outgoing personality, and being able to light up any room that she entered. She was a faithful member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Apopka, Florida. Our beloved Sherry passed away in the hospital on Friday, August 23, 2024. Sherry’s ultimate departure is a deep and personal loss to her family and friends. Sherry is preceded in death by her Parents, Jessie T. Henderson, Sr. and Edna Mae Henderson-Thomas; her beloved Sister, Bernadette Brunson; and Brother, Jessie T. Henderson, Jr. Sherry is survived by her beloved Husband, Calvin Barnes, Sr. of Mount Dora, Florida, who was both her friend and soul mate. Her legacy lives on through her children: Daughters: Tiffini Johnson of Orlando, Florida, Trenda Gunn of Orlando, Florida, and Toyea Gunn of Apopka, Florida; Sons: Preston Gunn, Jr. of Melbourne, Florida, Calvin Barnes, Jr. and Johnny Barnes, both of Mount Dora, Florida; Brother, Wallace “Leon” Henderson of Plymouth, Florida; Sister, Faye Sapp (Ulysses); Aunt, Rosa Kate Brown of Orlando, Florida; Uncle, Alexander Crumady, Jr. (Gloria) of Jacksonville, Florida; 5 Brothers-in-law; John Baker, Willie Baker (Annette), James Baker (Bernadine), Calvin Barnes, and William Barnes; 6 Sisters-in-law: Jewel Reddick, Betty Washington, Harriett Johnson (Andre), Marie Barnes, Carol Barnes, and Pauline Barnes; 11 Grandchildren: Samone Burnette, Steven Robinson, Shacoria Robinson, Sadarius Upshaw, Brittni Gunn, Khadejah Ghent, Patrice Gunn, Deshawn, Lazarian, Preston, and Trey; and 6 Great Grandchildren. As well as her Lifelong Friend, Marilyn Perkins of Apopka, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.
