Sherrie J. Jackson

Sherrie Jean Jackson was born December 3, 1955 in Miami, Florida to parents, Oscar Sims and Mary Ford. She attended Lakeview High School and graduated in the class of 1973. At an early age, Sherrie accepted Christ at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Oakland, Florida, under the leadership of the late Reverend E. E. Chisholm. In her late teen years, Sherrie helped caretake for her late sister Mary Ellen, who was born with spinal bifida - which led her to choosing to work at Sunland State Hospital. After working for Sundland, Sherrie decided to change careers and started working for the Head Start Program. Her teaching career started at the Oakland Headstart Program, and as the years went by, she worked her way up from Teacher’s Assistant, Lead Teacher, Center Supervisor, to becoming Manager of the Maxey Community Center/Community Action. Over the many years of working, Sherrie studied at Nova University, Columbia College, Valencia Community College and Lake Sumter State College. After serving 36 plus years for the Orange County Government, Sherrie retired in 2016. Sherrie was indeed a “Lady” of style and grace. Everyone that knew her or came in contact with her, knew she was a “Chanel Girl” who loved the opportunity to get dressed from head to toe, with a nice bag to finish. But her greatest love of all was her family, whom she loved dearly, especially her grandchildren and great-grand children who she gave all special nicknames and shared many precious memories. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Thomas Jackson; Mother, Mary Steplight; Brother, William Steplight; and Sister, Mary Ellen McFarland. Sherrie loved her family very much and leaves to cherish her memories, her Children: Valerie Morgan (Andrew) and Mariel Jackson-Orr (Juan), both of Winter Garden, Florida, and Kendrick Jackson of Oakland, Florida; 8 Grandchildren: Ja’mari Morgan, Tylar Morgan, Zyria Williams, Zacchaeus Williams, Zyrion Jackson Williams, Juan Orr, Jr., Kendrea Jackson, and Nevaeh Jackson; 1 Great-Grandchild, Tylan-Ky Morgan; Godmother, Annie Hughley; 3 Brothers-in-law, 3 Sisters-in-law; Best Friend, Neddie Watkins; Special Cousins: Rosalyn Jones, Claudia Franklin, and Georgia Blackman; Niece-Like-a-Daughter, Kamiya Moore; Godsisters: Sebrenia Brown and Nevonia Price, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.
