Deacon Roosevelt Harp

A Time to be Born: Roosevelt Harp was born May 16, 1935, son of Emory Harp and Lessie Lee Hanks. A Time to Work: Roosevelt attended school up to the fifth grade. He transitioned into the worktorce at an early age and began working in the agriculture industry, helping his father pick oranges. Later, he began driving orange grove trucks for the Winter Garden Exchange, and did so for over 30 years before retiring. Being the hard worker he was, Deacon Roosevelt found other things to put his hands to after retiring from agriculture. He began working for Tildenville Childcare and mowing lawns for the community, gardening, and selling his produce. A Time to Love: Roosevelt was united in Holy Matrimony at an childrene to leobise Railey in 1953, and from their union, seven A Time to Sing: Roosevelt was nicknamed "Tunie" because he absolutely loved to sing and could really carry a tune. Over 60 years ago, he joined the local recording group, the spiritual Nonders of Apopka, Florida. While with the Spiritual Wonders le became the lead singer and had the privilege of singing wit some of the most famous groups of their time, including The Williams Brothers, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, The Canton Spirituals, and the Jackson Southenaires, just to name a few. Deacon Roosevelt Harp was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Harp; father, Emory Harp; mother, Lessie Lee Hanks; sons: Lamar Harp, Howard Harp, Willie Lee Harp, and Thomas Harp; daughter-in-law: Felecia Harp; grandsons: Bj Haggins, Charlie Harp, Sr., Carlton Harp, Wardell Harp, J.P. Harp, Wilbert Harp, Roger Harp, and H.M. Harp; sısters: Mae Pearl McCory, Mea Lou Harp, Christina Bell, and Laura Mae Bell. Deacon Harp leaves to cherish precious memories: his Children: Willie James (Marcia) of NY, Herbert Harp, Alban Harp ( Ursula), Bruce Haggins, all of Winter Garden, FL, Patricia Carter of Georgia; Sister, Mary Harp of Plymouth, FL; Daughters-in-law: Gloria Harp of Winter Garden, FL, and Myra Harp of Talla-nassee, FL; Sisters-in-law, Lousie Harp, Mary Harp "aunt sista" Setty Brown of Albany, GA, and Patricia Nixson of Belle Glades FL; Grandchildren: Andre Walker (Sheryl), Lamond Harp (Angel), Sherman Harp (Likita), and Cassandra Harp, Angelique ayne, Aleta Payne, and Lamar Harp Jr., all of Winter Garden FL Latisha Harp and Thomas James Harp, both of NY • Darrious Herbert Harp IF Orlando, aL, Melissa Harp AL, Eurice EL, Harp of Tampa, FL, Thomas Harp Jr. (Rachel), and Mikalah Harp all of Tallahassee, FL, Tegra Harp and Isiah Harp, both of Winter Garden, FL, Alban Harp Jr. of NC, Stacey (Terri), Roderick (Courtney), and Tracey, all of GA; Special Friend, Lilly Mea Rutland; and a host of great-great grandchildren, grea-great-great-grands, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
