Mr. Roddrick Holmes, Jr

Roddrick D. Holmes, Jr. was born on March 11, 1979 in Apopka, Florida. Growing up Rodd dreamed of playing his favorite sport (football) and driving his “dream car” a Cadillac. Roddrick began his childhood education at Phyllis Wheatley Elementary, Apopka Memorial Middle School and Apopka High School. It was in high school when he really set the bar of his life- long dream of playing football. He was the star quarterback on the field and was known as “Hot Rodd.” Roddrick was awarded football scholarships to several colleges but chose to attend Marshall University. Later he transferred to Troy University and finally Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida. He continued to pursue his dream of playing football. Upon graduation Roddrick returned to Apopka with family and friends. Roddrick was no stranger to anyone and loved people from all walks of life. During his last moments of life, he was still “Rodd”...that same loving, outgoing, cheerful, spirited young man. His greatest joy was sharing his thoughts and his love of God with others. He was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where at an early age he accepted Jesus Christ as his Personal Savior. His faith never wavered, always following the footprints of Jesus. On Wednesday, May 31, 2017, God saw that Roddrick was weary so he called him from his earthly labor to eternal rest. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Richard Holmes (Ida Mae), Jonas Tyler. Roddrick leaves to cherish precious memories: a loving and devoted mother, Andretta Prince (Melvin, Sr.); father, Roddrick Holmes, Sr. Stone Mountain, Georgia; children, two daughters, Chassidy and Nye’drea Holmes of Apopka, Florida; four sons, Cayvian, Roddrick, III and Tyler Holmes, all of Apopka, Florida, Mykah Manning of Orlando, Florida; brother, Melvin Prince, Jr. (Andrea) of Wesley Chapel, Florida; sister, Shuntika Holmes of Apopka, Florida; grandparents, Mary Tyler of Apopka, Florida, Tony Barnum of Syracuse, New York and Lula Prince of Apopka, Florida; special friend, Shaquana Dicks of Apopka, Florida; niece, Arieanna Prince of Wesley Chapel, Florida; nephew, Manguez Lang of Apopka, Florida; Godparents, Wanda Lawson of Orlando, Florida, Terrell Fawbush (Shawn) of Ocoee, Florida, Alton Hughley (Angela) of Apopka, Florida; god sisters, Latrice Pitt (Steve) of Winter Garden, Florida, Ambra Martin of Apopka, Florida, Yvonne Collins of Leesburg, Florida; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins other relatives and close friends.
