Deacon Marion L. Alston, Sr.

Deacon Marion L. Alston, Sr. was born on October 18, 1935 to Mamie Greene and James “Son” Jenkins in Sumter, South Carolina. He married the love of his life, Eva Mae Peterson, on December 4, 1954. From this union, seven children were born. He moved to Florida and worked several years in the Citrus Industry as a Crew Leader and Truck Driver. He later retired from Winter Garden Citrus Exchange. Deacon Alston accepted Christ and joined Tildenville Church of God in Christ. He was a long -term, faithful member, serving under the leadership of Superintendent David Thompson and Pastor Eliot Brown. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Board and Sunday School Superintendent. Deacon Alston was a lover of the Word of God, his church and his family. Deacon Marion Alston departed this life on Friday, December 16, 2016 at Cornerstone Hospice in Orlando, Florida. His departure is a deep and personal loss to his family and friends and he will be greatly missed by them all. He is preceded in death by wife, Eva; son, Leroy; daughter, Mamie; sister, Mary; and brother, Ashby Green. Deacon Alston leaves to cherish his memory three sons: Marion Alston, Jr. (Gloria); Tony Alston and Bruce Alston of Orlando, Florida; two daughters: Joan Alston and Kathy Alston of Winter Garden, Florida; a loving daughter-in-law, Tamala Alston; grandchildren: Adrian Alston, Corinthian Alston, Leroy James Alston, Jr., Aalisha Alston, James Arthur Blair, Jr., Latosha Alston, Taniesha Alston, Bruce Alston, Jr., Latria Brown; six sisters: Lula Bradley, Bronx, New York; Rosa L. Green, District Heights, Maryland; Emma Magazine (James), Sumter, South Carolina; Janet Pinkney, Greenville, South Carolina; Evelena Prioleau (Willie), Wedgefield, South Carolina; and Martha Mickens, Ithica, New York; three brothers: Albert Jenkins (Judy), Albany New York; James Jenkins (Sheila), Augusta, Georgia; and Thomas Jenkins (Lenora), Bronx, New York; ten great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends, including devoted friends, Westley Adkins, Harrison Butler (brother, buddy, friend), Johnny Copeland, Joe Harris, Charles Jackson, Willie Peterson and special friend, Willie M. Taylor.
