Katie Maud Gordon

Katie Maud Gordon was a remarkable woman whose life was defined by love, strength, faith, and devotion to family. She departed this life leaving behind a powerful legacy built through generations of care, wisdom, and unwavering love. Katie was born on June 4, 1931, in Dothan, Alabama to the late Willie C. and Ressie Lee Reynolds. From an early age, she embodied resilience, compassion, and a deep sense of responsibility for those she loved; qualities that remained with her throughout her life. She was the heart of her family, a true matriarch whose presence brought comfort, guidance, and stability. Katie was known for her nurturing spirit, her quiet strength through life’s challenges, and her ability to make everyone feel welcomed. Above all, Katie was a devoted mother to eight children, whom she loved fiercely and supported unconditionally throughout her life. Katie instilled strong values in her children and grandchildren, teaching the importance of faith, kindness, perseverance, and family unity. Her lessons were not only spoken but lived, serving as a lasting example to all who knew her. Katie was a woman of strong faith and found great joy and strength in her church home, Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, which she loved dearly. When Katie joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in the mid 1970’s, under the leadership of Reverend Peter L. Lias, she immediately became active in church life. She loved to cook and would always prepare a dish for a bereaved family. Although she had many grandchildren of her own, her heart was big enough for more. Many children from the church adopted her as their grandmother and would come to dinner at her home every Sunday. She was a member of the Mother’s Board and supported the church with her attendance and finances. She will be sorely missed. She was preceded in death by: her loving children, Robert Earl Reynolds, Sr. and Julius Byrd Gordon, Jr., and Laurene DeShawn Gordon; devoted parents, Willie C. Reynolds and Ressie Lee Reynolds; two brothers, Vap Oscar Reynolds and Willie Lee Reynolds; sister, Turner Mae Booker; and her former husband, the father of her children, Julius Byrd Gordon Sr., with whom she shared a lasting bond of family and mutual respect. Katie Maud Gordon leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory and honor her legacy: Jeffery David Gordon, Sr, Winter Park, Florida; Joann Latson (Lewis), Orlando, Florida; Edith Cassandra Chapman, Winter Park, Florida; Miguel Emanuel Gordon, Ocoee, Florida; Helen Corlene Gordon, Eatonville, Florida; and daughter in-law Sandra Gordon, Apopka Florida; grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and sorrowing friends.
