Joyce McCoy Freeman

Joyce McCoy Freeman was born September 16, 1930 to parents, Frank McCoy and Pearl Parker in Clermont, Florida. Joyce received her education at Lincoln Park High School. She had two children and later married Ozzie Lee Freeman on December 14, 1959. They were married for 49 years. Joyce was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was a friend to many within the community of Clermont. Joyce had a lifelong career in food service. She worked as a cook at Clermont Elementary School, the Elks Club in Clermont, Florida, John Newcomb’s Resort and both the Regency and Ramada Inns. Joyce gave her life to Christ and was baptized at an early age. She was a kingdom builder for her church, St. Mark A.M.E. as a member for over 50 years. She held the office of Deaconess, Stewardess, sung in the choir and often cooked many delicious dinners for church functions. Joyce was active within her community. She was a member of the Lend A Hand Club (Clermont), President of the Clermont/Groveland Senior Citizen Club, The South Lake Black Achievers, South Lake Honors Society and a poll worker for the Lake County Board of Elections. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents: Frank McCoy and Pearl Parker; husband, Ozzie Lee Freeman; brother, Danzy Parker; and sisters: Genieve McCoy, Rosa P. McCall and Evelyn Clark. She is survived by her daughter, Rosa McCoy Fogle of Clermont, Florida; son, William Bill McCoy (Youngmi) of Minneola, Florida; adopted daughters: Kim Fielding and Suzy Basting, both of Clermont, Florida; grandson, Terrance McCoy of Clermont, Florida; granddaughters: Keasia McCoy of Clermont, Florida, Ericka Lasley of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Jennifer McCoy of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, Michelle and Leah McCoy of Minneola, Florida; great grandson, Brenton McCoy, Sr. of Houston, Texas; great granddaughters: Deja Kyi McCoy and Emiah Danae Lasley, all of Fredericksburg, Virginia; great-great grandsons: Brent McCoy, Jr. of Houston, Texas and Noryen Durand Lasley of Fredericksburg, Virginia; goddaughters: Sherri Spencer of Apopka, Florida, Cynthia Wilkerson of Jonesboro, Georgia and Jillian Collins of Leesburg, Florida; sisters-in-law: Taisy Parker of Trenton, New Jersey and Lucille Merkenson of Brooklyn, New York; 3 special life-long friends: Hurbert Harris, Edward Pace and Geraldine Wright; special nephew: Martin Wright, Jr.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends, with many associates in the Clermont community.
