Mrs. Josie Lee Long

Josie was born on April 9th 1941 to Roosevelt and Josephine Dunston. She was raised in Wilson, North Carolina. Her family later relocated to Central Florida where she attended Phyllis Wheatley School in Apopka, Florida. Josie married Jacob Long on September 25, 1958. They were married for 58 years. Josie began a short career in the work force, but gave this up to become a homemaker and raise her children after the death of her 4 year old daughter, Evelyn Josie Long. Many saw Josie as quiet and reserved, but she had much to say…her actions usually spoke louder than her words…Josie would always leave a positive impression on all that came across her path. Josie loved life and was a devoted wife and mother. She was very passionate in her beliefs. Her number one passion was Jesus and sharing the good news about the great things God has done. Josie gave her life to the Lord at the youthful age of 14 and never turned back. She joined Pentecostal Overcoming Holiness Church in Apopka, Florida several years later under the leadership of Bishop H.L. Hall. Many years later she became a member of Pentecostal Overcoming Holiness Church #2 in Kissimmee, Florida under the guidance of Pastor Mamie Kelly. Josie truly loved the Lord with all her heart and showed that same love to family, friends, neighbors, acquaintances, and strangers. Josie’s life exemplified 1 Corinthians 13. Josie was preceded in death by her parents Roosevelt and Josephine Dunston; her daughter, Evelyn Long; her grandson, Antonio Kellom; her sisters, Ethelene Pugh and Hattie Dingle, her brothers, Roy Dunston, Claude Hickey, and Robert Dunston; and her sister-in-law Delores Dunston. Josie leaves to cherish her precious memory her husband, Jacob Long; her children, Reginald Dunston, Eddie Long (Rose), James Long (Kimberly), Lillian Curvey-Booker (Cyrus), Rick Long Sr., and Dwayne Long; brothers, Ervin Dunston, James Hickey (Ruth); sisters, Mayetta Massey (John), Katie Jones (Jimmie); twenty grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in law, cousins and loving friends.
