Ina Ruth Owens

God granted Ina Ruth Taylor Owens entrance into His world on October 14, 1930, in Honoraville, Alabama, to the loving arms of Cannie Berry Taylor and Arthur Lee Taylor, Sr. Ina was the firstborn of five children. In 1939, she moved with her parents and siblings from Alabama to the Sunshine State of Florida. Ina’s education began in the elementary schools of Alabama. She was later educated in the Orange County Public School System and graduated from Hungerford High School in the historic city of Eatonville, Florida. Ina began working early in life as a young woman to help out with the care and financial stability for her family to maintain equilibrium, structure, and strength. It was these traits that helped Ina to develop into a loving and caring person who worked diligently to nurture and provide for her family. Ina evolved herself and was constantly growing and improving her life and mindset, which flourished into a woman of God that all people came to love. Her undisputed character set her apart and highlighted her elegant, stylish appearance, mannerisms, and total beauty. She was brilliantly polished by the excellence of God’s Holy Spirit through his beloved Son, Jesus Christ. Ina met and married the love of her life, Herman R. Owens, Sr., and to their holy union, they welcomed and embraced nine children whom they loved. Ina was a dedicated worker who was willing and eager to learn. Her work history includes long-term job stability with Sunland State Hospital for several years, moving from the housekeeping department, working her way up into the nursing department, and later becoming a floor supervisor, managing the night shift staff. She also worked part-time as a domestic housekeeper, working and caring for generations of the prestigious Hooper Family of Apopka, who embraced her as a family member to this day. In addition, she worked at the Quest Group Home. Ina also answered the call of God to become a disciple of Christ to do His bidding by working faithfully in His vineyard. She joined St. Elizabeth Church of God by Faith, becoming one of the founding families upon its establishment. There, she was a faithful member, serving in many capacities or wherever she could. She served her church faithfully as she played the drums, was a spiritfilled psalmist, a member of the choir, and led congregational songs. She also delivered meals to the elderly and visited the sick in her community. In addition to baking and cooking meals to share with others and even invited some to her table. She absolutely loved people and had no respect of person. Ina was preceded in death by her parents, Cannie and Arthur Lee Taylor, Sr.; daughters, Ivey Cannady and Vivian Owens; son, Roderick Owens; siblings, Auburn Taylor and Annie Jewel Hughley; and grandchildren: Kiambra Owens, Lonnie B. Cannady, Jr.; great-grandsons, Antwon Owens and Terrance Dunn. Left to cherish her precious and unforgettable memories are her 4 Daughters: Earlene Owens of Brooklyn, NY, Elaine Owens of New York, New York, Linda Owens of Washington, DC, and Ina Owens of Apopka, Florida; 2 Sons, Herman R. Owens, Jr. of Apopka, Florida and Randy Owens (Pamela) of Texas; siblings: Author Lee Taylor, Jr. and Ruth Griggs; and a host of loving and devoted Grandchildren, Great-grand children, and Great-great-grand-children; in addition to other daughters and sons in heart, Rosa Lewis (Fred), Cynthia B. Williams, Tangela Brown, Michael Bellamy, Theresa Sims (Willie), Lurella Wynn, Willie Johnson (Jean), Minnie Scott, Mamie Kelly, Pattie Wright, Areta McKenzie, Sylvia Hudson, Saffore McGowan, Sadie White, Jackie Fair, and Carolyn Robinson, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and dear friends.
