Helena A. Lloyd

Helena Adassa Lloyd also known as “Dassa” was born Helena Adassa Allen on February 2, 1932 in the Panama Canal Zone. She was the eldest daughter out of six children born to George and Winifred Allen. She had one older brother George and four sisters, Jean Vilma, Norma and Claudette. Helena graduated from La Boca High School in 1950. After graduation she attended culinary school for baking where she was able to use her skills and had various jobs. Living in such a small town, she met the late Alvin Lloyd who would become her husband. On August 16. 1957, she gave birth to her first son, Alexio Antonio Lloyd. As years went by, the family of three set their sight coming to the United States and settled in Stanford, Connecticut where she would have her youngest son, Mauricio Alberto Lloyd. In 1963, Helena and her two boys relocated to Brooklyn, New York where she worked various jobs. She eventually established her career at Chase Manhattan Bank from where she would retire. After Helena retired, she relocated to Deltona, Florida with her mother in 1994. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church where she was a member of the Choir and attended Bible Study. In 2017, she went to Georgia to live with her sisters. In 2020, she spent her last days in Florida. Helena was a caring, nurturing, loving daughter, mother, grandmother and sister who was loved by those who knew her and will be sorely missed. Helena was preceded in death by her parents: George Allen and Winifred Allen; brother: George Allen, II,; sister: Norma Mapp. Helena legacy lives on with her son: Alexio, his wife: Frances and her youngest son: Mauricio; his wife: Wanda; grandchildren: Alexis, Britni, Maurice Jr., Michael, Taylor, Winter and Denzil; great grandchildren: Tatumn, Carter, Cruz, Da’Jon, August, Ocean, Maurice III, Zola, Aneres and Aaniya; sisters: Jean McClure, Vilma Mobley, Claudette Allen; a host of other family and friends. You never said “I’m leaving” you never said goodbye; you were gone before I knew it, and only God knew why A million times I needed you, a million times I cried If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died In life I loved you; In death I love you still In my heart you hold a place, that no one could ever fill It broke my heart to lose you; But didn’t go alone For part of me went with you; The day God took you home.
