He was born in Winter Garden, Florida on October 31, 1938, to the late William Napoleon Zanders and Grace B. (Williams) Zanders. On March 17, 2007, he married Janice Charlton. In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by four brothers, Marvin C. Zanders, Grady W. Zanders, Harold Zanders William Zanders Jr.; and four sisters Melva J. Zanders, Martha Zanders Douglas, Mary Ethel Zanders, and Claudia Laverne Zanders. Eugene, a cherished member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rolla, was a devoted servant of his faith and community. An active member of the UKHFI Temple 203 (Shriner), he dedicated over 40 years to King Solomon 15 (Mason) and was also a stalwart member of Bathsheba Chapter 14 (Order of Eastern Star). His unwavering commitment to these organizations and his generous spirit touched the lives of many, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and service. Eugene will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him through his lifelong contributions to his church and fraternal organizations. Eugene will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes: his wife, Janice Zanders of Rolla, MO; one sister Nancy Zanders Green of Thomson, GA; nieces, Wendy Harpe and husband Jimmie, Patricia McGhee and husband Anthony, Charlotte Brome, Lynn, Grace, Leslie Carol, Billie, Linda, and Marveen Zanders Jefferson (Bill) ; two nephews Loren Dowdell and wife Stacey, Samuel Jefferson, Bishop Marvin C. Zanders II (Winiferd); special niece, Helen Zanders and Cicely Harpe; special nephew, Johnathan Harpe; one stepson Troy Charlton and wife Donna of Houston, TX; one step grandchild, Troy E. Charlton II; and a host of other relatives. A masonic service and funeral service for Eugene R. Zanders will be conducted at 12 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church in Rolla. Interment will follow in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in rural Waynesville, MO. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
