Eugene Harry Johnson, Jr.

On July 31, 1951, Eugene Harry Johnson, Jr. was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to the loving union of Eugene and Melvilan Johnson. Affectionately known as "BeBe" to his family and "Bowleg" to his friends, Eugene was the second oldest of nine children and a source of strength, wisdom, and laughter within his family. Eugene was educated in the Miami-Dade County Public School system and graduated from Miami Jackson High School in June 1970, where he proudly represented the Jackson Generals. During his youth, he met the love of his life, Alfreda Oliver. Their bond, which began at the age of fourteen, blossomed into a lifelong partnership. They were united in holy matrimony on May 18, 1973, in Miami, Florida, and shared over five decades of love, commitment, and devotion. From this union, they were blessed with three children, one son and two daughters, whom he cherished deeply. A man of great intelligence and strong work ethic, Eugene built a diverse and honorable career. He worked as a surveyor for the City of Miami, a switchman for the Florida East Coast Railroad, and as a meat cutter at Winn-Dixie's Pompano Beach warehouse. Ultimately, he found his calling in construction, where he worked as a skilled mason (bricklayer) until his retirement in 2014. His craftsmanship and dedication left a lasting mark, much like the legacy he leaves behind. Above all, Eugene was a protective brother, devoted husband, a loving and present father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He was loyal to his friends, deeply respected by his siblings, and valued by all who knew him. He lived his life grounded in faith and maintained a personal relationship with the Lord. Eugene found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved fishing, listening to jazz music, playing billiards, dancing, solving crossword puzzles, and most importantly, spending quality time with his family. His presence brought warmth, wisdom, and joy to every room he entered. On April 5, 2026, Eugene answered the call of the Lord and entered into eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Melvilan Johnson, and his brother, David Johnson. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his beloved wife, Alfreda Oliver Johnson; his son, Eugene Preston Johnson (Karen); his daughters, Devona E. Johnson and Fantara J. Houston (Curtis); his siblings, Cassandra Johnson, Beverly Smith (Charles), Sharron Beauford (John), Jackie Smith (Kenneth), Patrice Riley (Billy), Gregory Johnson (Charlene), and Pamela Watson (Johnnie); his brothers-in-law, Alfred Oliver and Edgar Oliver; his cherished grandchildren, Cherise Johnson, Cecil H. Houston III, Christian H. Houston, Cahron H. Houston, and Colin H.Houston; his adored great-granddaughters, Chemiyah Clark and Nylah Clark; his god-sister, Renae Seabrook; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Eugene's legacy is one of love, strength, faith, and unwavering devotion to his family. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
