Ethel Mae Florence

Ethel Mae Florence was born on March 10, 1929 in Butler County, Alabama to Mary Louise Porter and Riley Crittenden. Ethel was baptized at the age of nine (9) at Persimmon Creek. She attended schools in Georgiana, Alabama completing the 9th grade. In 1944, while attending Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church, where she met Robert L. Florence. The two became the altruistic couple. On May 24, 1947, Robert and Ethel were united in Holy Matrimony by the Honorable Judge Beamon at the Greenville County Courthouse in Greenville, Alabama. Ethel was very understanding, a non-judgmental and caring person. Anyone who entered into her home was considered family. Her favorite pastimes were listening to spirituals, eating a home cooked southern meal and being surrounded by her family/friends, exuding love in any way that she could. She was an avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed watching Florida State Seminoles. Her legacy of compassion and generosity will remain forever in the hearts of those she touched. On Wednesday, December 26, 2018, “The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!” Matthew 25:21. This is the day that Ethel Mae Florence transitioned from her life of earthly labor to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents: Mary Porter and Riley Crittenden. Husband Robert L. Florence Sr. Sisters: Annie Ruth Brockman; Flora Feagin; Pastella Florence; Imer Jean Williams. Children: Gerald L. Florence; Linda D. Allen; Shirley Busby. She leaves cherished memories with: Daughter: Valarie Ford (Vernon), Altamonte Springs, FL; Sons: Arthur L. Florence (Libbie) , Eustis, FL; Robert Florence Jr & Louis Clay, Altamonte Springs, FL; Eric Florence, Orlando, FL; Philip Florence (Michelle), Apopka, FL; Special great-grandson: Adam Shuler; Special great-great grandson: Elijah Florence (aka Hunk-A-Meat); and a very special extended family: E.G., Patricia, Jerry, Mary Jane, Karen, Larry and Danny Banks; A host of grands, great-grands, great-great grands, nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
