Ellen B. Williams

Sister Ellen B. Williams was born in Arabi, Crisp County, Georgia on November 28, 1931. This was during the time of The Great Depression and racial inequality. Ellen was the oldest child of Ms. Essie C. Mayo and Willie Brown. Ellen accepted her role with Christ early on during her childhood life by regularly attending church and participating in many church activities throughout the week. This commitment to the LORD served as the catalyst towards her evangelistic journey. The union of Ellen and Mr. Shieve Lee Staley brought forth two beautiful daughters on February 8, 1948, the late Mrs. Shirley David (formally Staley) and on August 10, 1949, the surviving daughter, Mrs. Mattie R. Brown (formally Staley). Ellen did not have a formalized education due to social and racial inequalities of the times, but she worked very hard in many positions to provide and support her family until her last days on the earth. During these times, she remained steadfast in serving, performing many church related positions and duties, such as Youth Director, Missionary and Evangelist. She was an instrument and servant of GOD by always lending a helping hand through her role as Missionary, Evangelist, Mother and Grandmother. She always saw the GOOD in everyone and helped them to have faith and pray for strength to reach into their own souls to find what they were looking for through the help of GOD. She was especially noteworthy for being the Matriarch of the family. She was also supportive, loving and assisting us to reach for the heavens in all endeavors large or small through prayer. Ellen was preceded in death by her father, Willie B. Brown; mother, Essie Brown; daughter, Shirley Davis and brother, Willie James Brown. She leaves to cherish precious memories to: her daughter, Mattie Brown (Schbert) of Apopka, Florida; sisters, Helen Ruth Cooper of Vero Beach, Florida, Louise McKennon (Walter), Claretha Tramble, all of Lenox, Georgia, Sheila Hill of Tifton, Georgia, brothers, Lester Brown of Chicago, Illinois, Terrion Wilson of Abberville, Georgia, Elijah Wilson of Marietta, Georgia and Ernest Brannen of Tifton, Georgia; grandchildren, Matha Brownlee III of Falls Church, Virginia, Yvette Walker (Dwayne) of Oviedo, Florida and Cassandra Slade of Cocoa, Florida; two great granddaughters, Dominique Slade Casey of Falls Church, Virginia and Nailah Walker of Oviedo, Florida; great-great grandson, Treyshawn Green of Falls Church, Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and sorrowing friends.
