Edgar Jenkins

Edgar Jenkins, affectionately known as “Red” was born October 10, 1942 in Terrel, Georgia. He received his formal education in the Terrel County Public School system in Georgia. At an early age, he gave his life to Christ and became a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church which was and still remains a family church and heritage. Edgar moved to Orlando, Florida and lived with his aunt Gladys. His expectation to have a better life once he come to Florida went into action. He found a place of employment at Morrison Cafeteria and was very good at what he did. Edgar began as a dishwasher and held several positions working his way up to supervisor for more than 38 years. He was always committed and dedicated to doing what was required and excelled in the restaurant industry. While working at Morrison, he met Patricia Holmes, the woman who would become his wife. On December 2, 1967, Edgar and Patricia was united in Holy matrimony in her home state of South Carolina. Their union was blessed with three children. Edgar became very involved in helping many people and had a love for cooking even the more. He had a big heart and loved his family. He was very caring and involved in his daughters lives. He was also very protective. He loved the residents of Carver Park and would share his love by volunteering to cook for them on holidays and many occasions. He would give rides to those in need, take out trash and often bake sweet treats for them. Edgar was introduced to River of Life Christian Center by his friend, Tony Holt and became a faithful member. He enjoyed the leadership of Pastor Marvin and First Lady Deborah Jackson. He would often testify of how much he loved his church and his pastor. Under their leadership, his spiritual life was phenomenally blessed. Edgar will be greatly missed by all who loved and adored him. He was preceded in death by his son, Edgar Kevin Jenkins; father, Andrew Jenkins; and mother, Martha Jenkins; brothers: Jimmy L. Clark, Lonnie Jenkins; sisters: Carrie B. Harvey and Maxine J. Brown. Left to cherish his memory are his lifelong companion: Patricia Jenkins of Orlando, Florida; daughters: Shannon V. Jenkins, Alania T. Jenkins, Maxine Jenkins, and Shaniel Jenkins Perry, all of Orlando, Florida; brothers: Mack Jenkins (Mary) of Orlando, Florida, Charles Jenkins (Joyce) of Albany, Georgia and Mary Frances Jenkins of Albany, Georgia; special cousin: Lena Pearl Armstead of Orlando, Florida; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and a host of loving nephews, nieces, other loving relatives and friends.
