He was the eldest of three children, and he loved and protected his siblings from the start. He was raised and educated in Belgium, where he also served in the Armed Forces. As a young man, he met and married his rst wife, Danielle Maes, and to their union, his rst child Melissa was born. He was best described as being blunt, yet caring. He was a true fan of nature. Hawks, owls, squirrels, you name it, he was fascinated by their very existence. He thoroughly enjoyed being a part of nature. He also loved traveling and diving in the ocean. Didier met his current wife, Claudy while attending a Solar Eclipse Festival in Tashal, Turkey March 26, 2006. Although they did not exchange numbers, they once again ran into each other when Claudy visited her godmother in Belgium on Easter of the same year and the rest is history. It was upon meeting he relocated to the US to be with Claudy in 2006 and to their union, they welcomed their son, Tashal whom they named after the place they first met. Didi was devoted to making sure his son Tashal had the best life possible. He always wanted to be the caretaker, and he did so with mastery. The male seahorse was his favorite, which became his moniker. Just as the male seahorse instinctively cares and is the primary caregiver of the offspring, so did Didier care for his family. He loved his job more than anyone else. His love for nurturing and care was evident in his daily tasks at work. He was employed at Mobility Works where he worked faithfully until his passing. Didier was preceded in death by his Father, Pierre Paul Maes and Mother, Sandra “Sandy” Grocott. Left to cherish his memory, Wife, Claudy Caidor of Orlando, Florida; Son, Tashal C. Maes of Orlando, Florida; Daughter, Melissa Maes of Belgium; Brother, Thierry Maes of Belgium; Sister, Gisele Maes of Catalonia, Spain; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.
