Daisy Mae Powell Holmes

Daisy Mae Bullock was born March 18, 1930 in Quincy, Florida, to parents Joseph “Joe” and Mary Bullock, Sr. She attended school in Quincy, Florida. Daisy accepted Christ at an early age at New Bethel A.M.E. Church in Quincy, Florida, where she grew up ushering. After relocating to Central Florida, she united with St. Lawrence A.M.E Church in Eatonville, Florida, under the leadership of Reverend Jimmy D. Howard, Sr. and later under the leadership of Apostle Raymond Stallworth. She was Usher Board President for many years under the leadership of Reverend Lance Williams, Pastor La’Fiesta Brown, Reverend Terrell Blair, Sr., and others. She was in charge of Culinary Department and helped with many fund-raisers. When it came to raising money for church projects, no one could hold a light to her in doing so. During her years of employment, she worked at a packing house in Quincy Florida, rolling cigars. She also worked for the State of Florida At Sunland Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida. She later worked at Sunland Hospital in Orlando, Florida, until its closing in 1983. She was a supervisor at the Sheraton Hotel in Maitland, Florida where she retired. After retirement she devoted her time and became a full time worker in her church at St. Lawrence, serving as a Trustee, an Usher and still in charge of the Culinary Department. Daisy was preceded in death by her Mother, Mary Bullock; Father, Joseph Bullock, Sr.; Son, Bernard Powell; Brothers: Joseph Bullock, Jr., Tony Bullock, Charleton Jerome Bullock, and Husband, Alexander Holmes. Left to cherish her memories…Daughter, Rebecca Foster of Tampa, Florida; Siblings: Walter Walker (Dee) of Tallahassee, Florida, Margaret Ward of Tallahassee, Florida, and David Bullock (Evie) of Fitzgerald, Georgia; Grandchildren: Craig Brown (Deena) of Tampa, Florida, Benjamin Zeigler (Tammy) of Lakeland, Florida, Leslie Powell and Candice Powell, both of Tallahassee, Florida; 4 Great Grandchildren: Cortez Zeigler Brown of Spain, Christopher Zeigler of Tampa, Florida, Brenden Zeigler of Richmond, Virginia, and Alexis Zeigler of Norfolk, Virginia; 4 Great-Great Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
