Amanda attended Hannibal Elementary School in Winter Park, Florida. She graduated from Hungerford High School in Eatonville, Florida. She furthered her education at Florida A&M University. Amanda loved children. Her love for youth was the fuel that inspired her to work with children, molding many young lives for OCPS (Orange County Public Schools). Students lovingly referred to her as “Grandma” and she happily embraced that name. She provided love, guidance, education, clothes, shoes, and food, touching many young lives as a Teacher’s Aide, for many years until her retirement. On July 16, 1955, Amanda married the love of her life, George Gilyard. The two remained lovingly married for sixty-nine (69) years. Amanda enjoyed spending time with her family, playing bingo, dancing, and attending church events. On December 27, 2024, Amanda transitioned from Earth to Glory and rests peacefully in the arms of Jesus. She was preceded in death by her firstborn Daughter, Sabring Gilyard; Father, Reverend LeRoy Jefferson; and Mother, Amanda Jefferson, Siblings: C.C. Jefferson, Namon Jefferson, Ethel Lee Jefferson, Robert Jefferson, Thelma Jefferson (Clark), Dorothy Jefferson (Benton), David Jefferson, Lennora Jefferson (Graham), Roberta Jefferson (Fayson), Leonard Jefferson, and Daisy Jefferson; Amanda leaves to mourn her passing…her devoted Husband of more than 69 years, George Gilyard (CMsgt USAF Ret.); a loving Daughter, Angell Hicks; Bonus Daughter, Ruby Sullivan; an adorable Grandson, Tru Hicks; Granddaughter, Heaven Sullivan; Bonus Sister, Marjorie Williams; and a host of brothers and sisters-inlaw, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, other loving relatives, and many sorrowing friends.
