Amanda married Major Booker and to their union, five children were born. Major Jean Booker Kiner of Gainesville, Florida, Cassie Ann Booker Williams (James) of Orlando, Florida, George Lamond Booker of Winter Garden, Florida, Dr. Frances Evon Booker Dixson (Rickey) of Lithonia, Georgia, and Dexter Leon Booker of Winter Garden, Florida. She joined Mt. Ebelle Missionary Baptist Church at an early age where she served until she relocated to Florida and joined the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist/Tildenville Missionary Baptist Church in 1948. As a member of Tildenville MB Church, she served in a myriad of capacities. She was the youth director, sang in the choir, led the YPD, was the Herald reporter, wrote church resolutions, the church historian and more. She attended the National Baptist Convention for many years traveling across the United States. She hosted prayer band meetings as well as attended the Florida Association of Churches. She loved the Lord and was truly a servant of God. Amanda was a bright and intelligent child skipping two grades in grade school. She was said to have had a photostatic memory. She graduated from Charles R. Drew High School’s Adult Education Program. Her love for learning continued at Valencia Community College, Rollins College, Berea College (Kentucky) and Mid Florida Technical College in Early Childhood Education. In addition to enhancing her education, she worked for several prominent families in Winter Garden, notably the Hurleys, Kitchens, Gleasons, and Reeses. She worked as a home educator, teaching low income families how to prepare well balanced meals through the Home Extension Program and the state of Florida. She served as the Director of the Tildenville MBC Daycare Center for over 35 years. Amanda and her late husband, Major were also entreprenuers. They owned a gas/convenience store, were Stanley products consultants, and owned a cleaning service. After retiring, Amanda worked at Walmart and volunteered feeding the homeless. She was also a notary, and once married a couple. Amanda never met a stranger and was loved by many. She received numerous awards and recognitions. She has been featured in the Winter Garden Times, was a one time nominee of Florida’s Woman of the Year, recognized by the Black Heritage Group for her outstanding work in the community, a recipient of the West Orange County Citizen of distinction, the Black History Award for Outstanding Contributions to her Community, and more. In addition to her work in the community, she served on County Boards, was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars, the Heroines of Jericho and the Lily White Lodge. She was preceded in death by her parents: Jessie Allen and Georgia Lee West Allen; Husband, Major Booker; Siblings: Jessie Allen Ellis, Rushie Allen Johnson, Velvie Allen Trice, Ernestine Allen Brown, John Allen, George Allen, and David Clifford Allen. Amanda was a loving grandmother to Marsha Kiner, Monica Anderson, Marlon MacRoy (Jackie), Terrell Jackson, Santanio Jackson, Latonya English Porter, Tangee Brunson, Lachell Long (Jamal), Malcolm Kiner, Deanna Michaels, Toby Cotton, Williard Heard, Linda (Tina) Watkins, and Nyesha Russell. She was also a great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Many, along with her family will cherish her memory including her bonus daughters: Lillar Mae Rutland, Catherine Peterson, Angela Johnson, Dorothy Tamplin, Amanda Denise Brown (niece) and Earnestine Brown; as well as a bonus son, Jessie Allen (nephew). Her extended family also includes the McKinnons and son, Maury Boyd, the Hudsons, Mrs. Sue Hurley, and sons, Michael and Casey, and Mrs. Carolyn Tisdale and family. Amanda was loved by all and a servant of God.
