Mary Eunice Shines

Mary Eunice Allen Shines was born in Brooksville, Florida to David Allen and Ida Simmons Allen. Mary was the 3rd oldest to a family of 11 kids. Mary was joined in holy matrimony to Curtis Lee Shines. They were the proud parents of 4 children, Ricky Shines, Yolanda Shines, Tashonda Slover and Tamica Shines. Mary loved her kids, grandkids and family dearly. She was kind, funny and passionate in all that she pursued. Mary was a chef for the Orlando Naval Training Center for over 20 years prior to it’s closing in the late 90’s. Mary worked as a sous chef at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club resort in Orlando, Florida from 1995 until her retirement in 2009. Mary had a passion for cooking and baking. She would cook huge multi-course meals for her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling and has been on at least 30 cruises across the continent. Mary enjoyed playing card games and would often spend weekends playing tonk and spades with family. She loved seafood, especially her sister Viola’s famous garlic crabs. Mary baked many desserts and dishes including the best homemade carrot cake and macaroni and cheese. Mary’s smile could light up a room. She may have been small in stature but grand in personality, style, attitude and spirit. She was one of the matriarchs of her family and used her love of cooking to draw family and friends together. Mary was honorable and sassy with a heart of gold. Mary was preceded in death by husband, Curtis Lee Shines; her parents, David Allen and Ida Simmons Allen; son, Ricky Shines, sister, Tirresa Allen, brother, David H. Allen. She leaves to cherish her memories; three daughters: Yolanda Shines, Tashonda Slover and Tamica Shines; twelve grandkids: Phillip Shines, Tequila, Tekeisha, Anthony Shines, Antonio Shines, Joseph White, Jade Rochez, Jordan Slover, Mya Slover, Jamari Pace, Jacoby Pace, Dallen Shines; eight great grandkids, eight sisters Dorothy Chapman, Dolly B. Augustus, Audrey Nelson, Jessie Bishop (William), Viola Grady (Charles), Daisy Lewis (Tommie Lee), Brenda Jennings and Barbara Gray (Dr. Gray), a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
