In 1950 the family relocated to Winter Garden, Florida. Dorothy attended grades 1-12 at Charles R. Drew, where she excelled academically and in sports. She was a star basketball player for the “Mighty Wildcats.” She graduated from Charles R. Drew High School in the class of 1963. Upon graduation, Dorothy obtained employment at Maxey Elementary in the cafeteria, working in the cafeteria at Maxey Elementary. After several years, she attended Westside Vocational Technical and received her license in cosmetology. Later she returned to the Orange County School System as a bus driver. Dorothy accepted Jesus Christ as her Personal Savior at an early age and was baptized at the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist under the leadership of the late Rev. F .E. Wilder. She was a dedicated worker in the Master’s Vineyard for sixty (60) plus years. Not only did she attend but her children were raised to know Jesus Christ as their Personal Savior also. She was very loyal to all phases of the church, including the Deaconess Ministry, Mission Ministry, Sunday School, Golden Angels and was supportive of the Youth Department, the Bethlehem Male Chorus and the West Orange Male Chorus, traveling with them on almost every occasion. She also spread the Good News of Jesus Christ through song, with the former Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Choir. She was a Woman of God, faithful in deeds and words. Dorothy’s family was dear to her heart. She saw to it that they were provided for in every way. She was their number one supporter and cheerleader, always encouraging them to go above and beyond of what was expected. She was a loving wife to Jacob Brunson for 43 years, seeing to his every need as well. They enjoyed fishing and traveling with their “Cruise Club Friends.” On Sunday, December 20, 2020, surrounded by family, God saw fit to call Dorothy from her earthly labor to reward. She will be greatly missed by the many lives she touched. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, David and Annie Lee Ransome, several aunts, uncles, in-laws and other loved ones. Left to cherish her Memories and Legacy are: her Husband of 43 years, Jacob Brunson, Winter Garden, Florida; Children: Carla Thames, Winter Garden, Florida, Valerie Holley (Norman), Winter Garden, Florida, Kimberly Bennett (Gregory), Apopka, Florida and Angela Jones, Stuckey, Florida; step-children: Jackie Sweeting (Reginald), Winter Garden, Florida, Rose Reeves (Willie C.) Winter Garden, Florida, Jacob Brunson, Jr. (Alberdeen) New Jersey, Tyrone Brunson, Troy, Alabama; Siblings: Willie C. Chester, Georgia, Rodney Bracey (Karen), Orlando, Florida, Celia Rubin (Troy), Kissimmee, Florida; (45) Grandchildren: (38) Great Grandchildren: Uncle: Buddie Ransome (Nettie), Winter Garden, Florida; Aunts: Victoria A.
